Using Microsoft FrontPage

Microsoft FrontPage's ease of use has gone up significantly with FP2000. It is actually quite simple to operate requiring no special instructions on this site, other than the fact, that you MUST request FP extensions to be installed on your server account PRIOR to setup. FP server accounts are configured much differently than standard FTP-based server accounts. For comprehensive support, FAQ's and other documentation, DEFINITELY check out Microsoft's web site at: http://microsoft.com/frontpage/.

If you are using an earlier version of Frontpage other than 2000, then the information provided below, should be able to help. If you require additional assistance, please be sure to contact Microsoft's Frontpage Support.

Other Notes:

  • Some extensions may or may not work on your server due to the fact that our servers run Linux and not Windows NT
  • You get several pre-installed or easy to install scripts on your server account, which may negate the need to install extensions to run similar functions
  • Information below is for users of Frontpage 98 or Earlier Versins ONLY:

To ensure your web pages are configured properly from Front Page Explorer, choose "Tools", "Web Settings", "Advanced" and change Style to "NCSA". If this is done at the root web level all subsequent Web Pages will inherit the proper settings.

After you have designed your web you will need to publish it. If you are using an older FrontPage version than Frontpage 98 or 2000, then first obtain and install a copy of Microsoft FrontPage Publishing Wizard Version 1.1x or higher. This is available at http://microsoft.com/frontpage/.

The Front Page Publishing Wizard will guide you through the steps necessary to upload your new Web Pages to your site. It will also notify you if there are any potential problems with your web pages based on the NCSA setting.
